IRON LAMB – A QUEST FOR ROCK & ROLL
Everybody knows rock & roll gained perfection in the late 70’s, it’s a scientific fact. Between them, bands like Thin Lizzy, Ramones, Motörhead and Ac/Dc found the pure essence of hard music and rolled with it. Since then, punk and metal has gradually been twisted into extreme forms, or watered down to commercial blandness. Eventually the pure formula was lost, the rock just didn’t roll as it used to. Since its formation in 2009, Iron Lamb has made it their quest to search for that original formula and avoid all the trends of late. They emerged to rock and/or roll.
Iron Lamb was formed by guitarist Johan Wallin, drummer Tomas Daun and vocalist Gustaf Lindström in 2009, soon to be joined by bass player Daniel Ekeroth. As all these members have quite extreme musical backgrounds, in bands such as Repugnant, Insision, General Surgery and Tyrant, it all started out quite punkish. Through a slew of 7” singles and debut album The Original Sin they gravitated towards a more riff based rock, echoing the days of old. The debut gig as openers for punk legends Poison Idea led to a row of strange concerts and tours, where the band stood out as a sore thumb as they appeared along bands like Vomitory, Ghost, Turbonegro, Bolt Thrower. It worked, people just seemed to long for direct rock & roll again. You see, they started to remember. Remember metal without clichés and punk without dogmas, a time when the music itself mattered.
The addition of second guitarist Jens Bäckelin opened new doors to Lizzy-esque harmonies, and when gravelly-voiced Daniel Bragman carried on the torch of original singer Gustaf the band took yet another step in the direction of solid rock. Second album Fools Gold followed a one way track into real music in a climate where fixed genres dominated the scenes. In 2015, it was as direct as any rock & roll album out there. Some touring and festival appearances gained them further attention from the punk and metal scenes alike, both genres claiming them as their own. This was not your average retro-band trying to cash in on some traditional style, this was pure music and people recognized it. The rock was rolling again.
With their latest album Blue Haze, Iron Lamb is now here to make the record straight once more. The album is packed with catchy riffs and grooves that are completely their own. Raw, heavy, catchy and intense as hell without any of the stereotype patterns or uniforms normally associated with punk and metal genres. Iron Lamb is here to bring back that pure rock & roll formula, and you are invited for the ride on the apocalypse express.
Can you dig it?!

It´s all about attitude, raging sounds and over the topp intensity on Piss Rivers debut album. Combining the best parts of Girlschool, L7, The Gits and Annihilation Time will take you quite close to Piss Rivers twelve track self titled debut. The album have the same kind of clash of musical influences as the alternative rock and pre-grunge era held in the late 80´s and early 90´s. Punk attitude that makes NWOBHM riffs even more intense combined with passionate self empowering lyrics that throws punches everywhere. You can hear the shivers from the underground on Piss Rivers debut album that is released the 27 of April on The Sign Records.
The album contains tracks as ”Speed Machine”, ”Take Me To Rusk” and ”Thor Is Strong” that shows the band NWOBHM background. ”Sparks” that is a tribute to L7s Donita Spark, that together with ”Desolation” gives a vibe from the early 90´s pre-grunge era. Other stand out tracks includes ”Bad Reptuation” that have that driving punk rock attitude that will turn any party up side down. A cover of Larry Wallis song ”Police Car” ties together the albums many and mixed influences into this infectious rock n roll nightmare.
Members of Piss River have a background in bands as Auktion, Skitkids and Warchild. Everything is recorded by Erik Lindbergh of Misantropic in Ljudkross Studio in Umeå, Sweden. Through the time and universe of rock-history, there have been a few words interlocking the important events. Words as Loud, Groovy, Electrifying and Over the top – words that also could describe Swedens Hypnos. A band that holds the capacity to unite an audience of headbangers, stoners, retro-kids and old farts. Wherever you find Hypnos you will find awesome rock music.
With their twin guitar hooks a la Thin Lizzy, powerful vocals reminding you of a young Halford or Dickinson, groovy rhythm section and stunning stage performance it’s hard not to get going by their show. There is a playful vibe over the band. There is something more than just 70´s retro or 80´s revival. Hypnos have their home in Gothenburg a city that is notorious for their high amount of quality rock acts. Hypnos is very much a central part of the city’s contemporary rock-scene where you among other can find acts as Night Viper, Honeymoon Disease, Horisont, and Graveyard.
Perhaps though the playful vibe and the laid back and easy going attitude of the band is because of the bands ex-member list that is just as long as any classical rock act. The constant changing of members have given the band the opportunity to always evolve, and they have always kept the feeling that each riff might be the last riff they would ever play.
The band released GBG Sessions in 2018 that is a special album as it both shows a live experienced band at the same time as it features the band’s new singer Linus Johansson for the first time. Hypnos had trouble during the first a half of 2017 when the band’s previous singer Philip Lindgren decided to leave the band and soon after their old label Crusher Records was put on hold. But no challenge is big enough for Hypnos as the band rises like Phonix from the ashes.
Hypnos started in 2013 and recorded and released their debut album self-titled album in 2014 (Crusher Records). In 2016 the band released their second album ”Cold Winds” (Crusher Records). In 2017 the band re-recorded many of their favorite tracks from previous releases for their ”GBG Sessions” live in the studio album. The session also included two brand new songs. Hypnos returns in October 2018 with their brand new album ‘Set Fire To The Sky’. The band has refined their sound together with producer Ola Ersfjord (Tribulation, Primordial, Honeymoon Disease). The sound is clearer and creates more space and room for the music. Hypnos are establishing their sound with the new album. It´s clear that ”Set Fire To The Sky” is the launchpad for the bands future.
Today the band is stronger, wiser, more mature and have gained a new singer and a new label in The Sign Records. Hypnos came to their crossroad but this new live session album shows that the band knows their direction and the future has never looked brighter.
Hypnos is:
Linus Johansson – Vocals
Oskar Wersäll – Guitarr
Anton Frick Kallmin – Bass
Pontus Isebring – Guitarr
Oskar Brindmark – Drums

The heavy prog-metal-trio, Vokonis, is here to daze you with their furious sludge-vibe and melodic passages. Drenched inblasting distortion, melody, and menace, Vokonis is ready to fully blossom as the progressive beast they’ve held within since 2015. With a style that ranges from the heavy riffage and vocals of heavy bands such as to utterly clean Pink Floydish soundscapes, they aim to completely immerse you in their songwriting. As you share a psychedelic and thrilling journey Vokonis will have shown their range from full-blown doom to melodically blissful passages.
Vokonis third album “Grasping Time” will be released in the spring of 2019 on The Sign Records. Simon said of the process; “We’re practically living in our practice space. So it’s no wonder we’ve been productive. I always wanted for us to write our own Crack The Skye. This might be it.” Simon, Emil, and Jonte have since their start putting everything in high gear. While they’ve released two records, being featured in the highly profiled “The Planet of Doom”-animated movie, Vokonis aren’t stepping down in tempo. Neither are satisfied. With a new sound, the trio is ready to launch themselves into the stratosphere.
Playing shows and putting a bigger focus on touring Vokonis have shared stages with bands such as Monolord, Skraeckoedlan, and Bombus. Playing on the road have been instrumental in the evolution of the band. With a heavy punk vibe to their live-shows, they have drawn out a new-found strength in the studio. Laying down heaviness in new forms as shown in tracks such as “I hear the Siren” and “Sunless Hymnal”, they also feel comfortable to take it down a notch. With a dynamic range the size of the backline of Sunn O))), Vokonis show that their love for warm sound and melody is not lost on anyone.
Taking steps forward from their previous album ‘The Sunken Djinn’ (2017), a heavy endeavor focusing mainly on raw power and how far one can take fuzzed out riffs, Vokonis now sets out towards a new musical goal. Inspired by nature and the universe around us they’ve deepened their sound immensely. Drawing inspiration from the shared vocals of Mastodon and a love for all things progressive Vokonis have evolved into the usage of dual vocals. Now sharing lead vocals, Jontes melodic voice complement the fierce bark of guitarist Simon. “As we toyed around with the idea of sharing vocals we found out just how much more stuff Simon could do with the guitar. Playing leads or more complex riffs while I’m singing was something we only dreamed of before.” Jonte said of the trios new sound.
Vokonis are ready to take the next step. With a new dynamic sound and a goal set for the domination of the heavy underground they’re coming for your ears. Get ready.
